Everyone knows that parrots are born talkers right?
Wrong!
When I got my African Grey parrot, Slipmatt, back in 2005, the breeder told me he probably wouldn’t speak until he was about 9 months.
My boy proved her wrong, though.
Just three months later, he was copying wolf whistles from the radio and mimicking me.
Over the next few years, Slipmatt picked up all sorts of phrases.
If he saw me picking up my keys, he’d call out, ‘See you later!’
Amazing!
But it also meant that me and my partner Jessica, 30, had to be careful about what we said around him!
My son Reilly, now, 6, was his best mate, and I didn’t want him hearing anything rude.
Thankfully, Slipmatt didn’t pick up any swear words.
