A MITCHELL’S Plain grandfather has been sentenced to life behind bars for raping his 13-year-old granddaughter.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila, said the 63-year-old was convicted in the Mitchell’s Plain Regional Court this week, and was also slapped with a 10-year sentence for attempted rape.
The man, who cannot be named to protect his victim, was on parole for the rape of his daughter when he was arrested for raping his granddaughter.
Ntabazalila says despite overwhelming evidence that led to his conviction, the grandfather maintained his innocence and attempted to paint the victim in a bad light.
