POLICE in Cape Town have arrested a Bolt driver who allegedly stabbed two young women during an altercation over their drop-off location. It’s alleged the stabbing took place when the driver refused to drop a group of five friends at their requested location in Dunoon after he had been paid his R90 fare for the trip and made two stops at an ATM to withdraw money. After a dispute with the young women, the driver allegedly wanted to leave them at a petrol station, but they refused to alight. The driver then drove with the young women to the Table View police station, but officers at the police station apparently instructed him to complete the trip as he had been paid his fare. The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has rejected the DA’s TV election advertisement depicting the South African flag burning to ashes. The public broadcaster believes that the advert encourages damage to treasured national symbols. According to its statement, it informed the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) of its decision to reject the DA’s political advert. “Additionally, it is expected that the national flag should be accorded with dignity and respect. Thus, the flag is not a representation of a political party but the nation at large,” the statement read. The broadcaster stated that some of the words used in the advert are the subject of a formal complaint lodged with Icasa against the SABC. THE Tygerberg Oral Health Centre and the University of the Western Cape (UWC) unveiled its state-of-the-art Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) unit, which will be used by the university’s Dentistry Faculty and Tygerberg Oral Health Centre. The Vatech Green X 18 Cone Beam CT unit was donated by the global X-ray imaging company Vatech, based in South Korea, in partnership with South African-based supplier SciVision Medical, for the handover to UWC and the Department of Health and Wellness. The official launch took place at the Tygerberg Oral Health Centre in Bellville yesterday. The CBCT will offer enhanced diagnostic technology and precision in dental treatment. The Hawks have arrested a suspect who is accused of murdering a police officer for a second time. Warrant Officer Siyakubonga Mphakathi was about to start his night shift in June 2022 at the Philippi railway station in Ngulube Street when he was shot and killed by three unknown suspects. The National Assembly was gutted during a fire on January 2, 2022. On December 11 last year the Western Cape High Court declared the alleged arsonist, Zandile Mafe, unfit to stand trial. Yesterday, Parliament presented it’s state-of-the-art reconstruction plan and design of the old and new National Assembly, which will resemble a Yellowwood tree. This will focus on whether Zuma’s jail sentence would hinder his ability to be an MP. A gun-toting gangster who recklessly opened fire on Metro Police in Manenberg has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by the Wynberg Regional Court. Yaseem Palm was sentenced last Friday following an investigation by the Anti-Gang Unit. His arrest came amid a spate of attacks on Metro Police officers. Palm was busted on December 6, 2022, during a deadly war between the Hard Livings, Fancy Boys and Clever Kids gangs. At the crime scene, officers revealed that Palm and several others had opened fire on the Fancy Boys when police reacted to the gunfire. Police spokesperson, Anelisiwe Manyana, says Palm was handed a total of 27 years for all the charges linked to the shooting. Former Constitutional Court Justice Yvonne Mokgoro has died. This has been confirmed by her loved ones to the media. Mokgoro, 73, died yesterday at around 5pm in a Johannesburg hospital. Her death follows a prolonged struggle after a severe car accident approximately nine months ago in the Northern Cape, from which she never fully recovered. She was initially treated at a private hospital in Kimberley before being airlifted to a Johannesburg medical facility. Mokgoro was a judge of the Constitutional Court of South Africa from its inception in 1994 until the end of her 15-year term in 2009. She played a pivotal role in shaping South Africa’s legal landscape.
