BROAD-BASED Black Economic Empowerment (BB-BEE) is often maligned but, according to businessman and activist Kashif Wicomb, it is essential to narrowing South Africa’s income inequality.
Earlier this week, Wicomb, along with Kganki Matabane, Gloria Serobe, Nthabiseng Moleko, Sibongile Sambo, Sibusiso Maphatiane, Ajay Lulu, Louise Thipe, Makale Ngwenya, Lulu Gwagwa, Thulani Tshefuta, James Hodge, Khathu Lambani Makwela and Irene Dimakatso Morati were appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to his BB-BEE Advisory Council.
Wicomb said no country could be safe if 45% of economically active citizens were unemployed.
“Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment, if implemented correctly, will assist in addressing those imbalances, not only of the past but the current imbalances we face as a country, and as a nation,” said Wicomb.
