The students are going back to school full-time. We now know far more about the Covid-19 virus than we knew in March 2020. The world reacted quickly, and we saved thousands of lives, but sadly, we also lost many. Our parents, teachers and non-teaching staff, students and workers should be commended for how they reacted to this deadly virus. Education in our country has been in a crisis since 1652. We have not been fortunate to develop an education system suited to the inhabitants of this country. The education we received was forced upon us. The new intake of interns were welcomed by Health MEC Nomafrench Mbombo at Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH), where 65 of the 313 first-year interns for 2022 will be stationed. About 300 second-year interns will be returning from the 2021 intake. GSH intern representative Sheldon Moss started his internship in January last year. “I was on call the very first day of January which was very nerve-racking at the time. This wasn’t an easy task. She told the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) yesterday that the audit outcomes report of municipalities released last June, still showed the management of finances in local government had not improved. Maluleke said they wanted the NCOP to play an oversight role by holding mayors and councillors accountable for the use of public funds. When the Public Audit Act was amended in 2019, it gave the auditor-general more powers to rein in municipalities and other government departments for the use of funds, and to act against fraud and corruption.
