The organisation said that after studying the CCTV footage of the two attacks, it became apparent that the dogs were acting on the instructions of a person or group of people. The killings in the area continue, with the number of slain felines now at 43. The latest incident occurred last week, when a tiny ginger kitten was beheaded, and its head was found on the doormat of a resident in Third Avenue in Sherwood Park. Mqalo is one of the more than 30 female patrollers whose work was honoured by the Thembokwezi Crime Watch in a series of social media posts, for continuously braving adverse conditions to ensure the safety of residents in the area. This as Women’s Month draws to a close. Mqalo said her love for her community and her determination to help reduce criminal activities in the area prompted her to join the neighbourhood watch. THE Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust has paid tribute to Faiez Dollie who died on Friday. He was 55. Dollie was co-founder of the trust’s sister organisation, the Youth Economic Participation Programme (YEPP), a non-profit organisation which helped to address unemployment by unlocking economic opportunities for young people as well as education, training and learning. This was said to be the worst breach of the landfill site in about 20 years and would affect marine life significantly. City Coastal Management manager Gregg Oelofse said the landfill site was from the 1960s and 1970s and had serviced Scarborough, Kommetjie, Ocean View and Misty Cliffs. “For the past 20 years, we have been managing the windblown sands and keeping a cap on the landfill site. Small-scale fishers expect the policy, which has been in the making since 2017, to provide an efficient regulatory regime for the inland fisheries sector. They also hope it formalises the informal and unrecognised activities of small-scale fisheries. The policy, among others, provides for the setting up of developmental fisheries’ governance institutions, support to growing inland fisheries value chains, management of a sustainable inland fishing, and addresses equity and transformation of the sector.
