THE conflicts in Bosnia, Xinjiang (China), Myanmar, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Chechnya, Kashmir, Iraq and Israel/Palestine, and the 9/11 attacks have raised global awareness of Islam at a superficial level.
Little effort has been made to understand the “real Islam” behind the mass media headlines. The media can play a pivotal, vital role to educate and inform about “true Islam”, through investigative journalism like that of John Pilger, Robert Fisk and Noam Chomsky.
Muslims see Islam as peace and justice. Muslims around the globe are calling for urgent reforms within the Islamic world, and for the West to end its double standards, hypocrisy and bigotry. Islam emphasises love, faith in God, and a spirit of charity towards all living things.
