SEVEN people were arrested for public violence yesterday after allegedly clashing with police during service protests in Kraaifontein and Delft.
Police spokesperson André Traut said the seven, of whom six were arrested in Kraaifontein and one in Delft, would appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court once charged.
The violent protests, which have been affecting morning traffic on the N2 highway, Mew Way, Baden Powell Drive, R300 and Hindle Road, started on Monday, and spread to other areas in the province.
They have affected communities around Khayelitsha, Belhar, Kuilsriver and Kraaifontein, with reports of stone-throwing, burning of vehicles, tyres and rubble and injury to police officers, and resulted in the death of one person in Kraaifontein.
