I recently spent a few days in Oxford, U.K., and in just over 24 hours, I took in two things: during my Sunday long run, I visited the Sir Roger Bannister Track at the Iffley Road Sports Centre, where, in May 1954, Bannister (then a 25-year-old medical student) ran the first sub-four-minute mile. And I participated in a parkrun—the free weekly, timed, community 5-km run that has introduced thousands of people to the sport since 2004.
