The YYC Run Crew had humble roots. Based in Calgary (the third most populated city in Canada), in its first four years, the club had between five and 15 runners weekly. Those numbers swelled in 2015, when founder Raf Lopez revamped the club into a local brand that residents could latch onto. With a logo, website and social media presence, YYC Run Crew was born, and with it, their pack grew to 60 runners. Then two years ago, Lopez partnered with Eighty-Eight Brewing Co., giving the crew a home base for their Tuesday night runs. They’re now seeing 150–200 people turn up each week.
