In the short life we’re given, many of us strive to make a difference, and sometimes we’re able to, even for people we’ve never met.
This story began on New Year’s Eve in 2022, when I joined the St. Catharines, Ont. Road Runners/Walkers. The following summer, I learned that the club was taking part (virtually) in Rosseau Lake College’s Hekkla race, and raising funds for donation.
The year after its founding in 1967, Rosseau Lake College, situated in Rosseau, Ont., in Parry Sound district, instigated a great tradition: an all-school event in April in which the students (all boys, in the school’s early years, though it is now co-ed) would race each other to the town of Hekkla—a distance of 18 km.
