I hope you’ve been making the most of the summer sun. I’ve certainly been trying my best to. Last month, I mentioned that I was off camping at Kite Festival in Oxfordshire. It turned out to be a brilliant, sun-soaked, family weekend of awesome music, mind expanding talks and fab food. Camping and theme parks go together like James Bond and martinis. And you can be certain that they’ll leave you shaken and stirred! Several theme parks have their own campsites, meaning you can pitch up on their doorstep and be first in line when the doors open in the morning. If finances allow it, you can also visit multiple parks from the same campsite. Campsite Of The Month Green Hill Farm is a peaceful hideaway with the added bonus of having its own direct access to the New Forest. A gate at the bottom of the site leads into open woodland. You therefore have miles of trails and paths that you can explore at your leisure. The New Forest Lavender Gardens are just a 30-minute stroll away, or if you want to head out on two wheels, bikes can be hired. The campsite is split into different areas, including an adults-only section, and there are three shower and toilet blocks, plus a launderette and dog showers. As I was hoping to hike in the USA the following spring, I needed a way of maintaining some level of fitness during the off-season, which is why I took a trip to Cornwall for some hiking on the South West Coast Path. An advantage of Cornwall is the ability to find campsites virtually on the coastal path, so no need to pack up every day to head out.
