Revisiting European countries comes with the need to seek out new places, campsites, attractions and food – that was pretty much the to do list for our six-week trip to Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
A lot of things came our way this time, including some surprises – hills in the Netherlands, a farmer who took to decorating every single item he possessed with bright painted designs, a cycling museum loaded with Eddy Merckx (my teenage cycling hero) memorabilia, a modernised postindustrial Ruhr Valley with tree-lined boulevards and, more starkly, the continuing reconstruction of large parts of southwest Germany after devastating floods in 2021.
