India is rapidly transforming into a powerhouse for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) with nearly 2,000 units across the country. It, in fact, hosts more than 50% of the world’s GCCs. These centres already employ over two million across the country. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, during a recent tour of Europe, underscored India’s GCC boom while engaging with investors. “India is the preferred destination for GCCs. Skilled Indians are powering the world’s research, innovation, and design needs. THE FATAL CRASH of Air India flight AI 171 in Ahmedabad has brought Boeing under renewed global scrutiny. After a week of that incident, another Air India Hong Kong-Delhi flight, a 787 Dreamliner, was forced to return to the airport, shortly after take-off, due to a technical issue. However, these events are unlikely to impact the delivery of 185 outstanding aircraft, a part of the fleet modernistion plan of the Tata Group airline. Air India has an order book of 529 aircraft, which includes 20 B787 Dreamliners. EARLIER THIS MONTH, the Ministry of Heavy Industries notified the guidelines for the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India. The scheme, aimed at luring global EV manufacturers, offers reduced import duties and mandates substantial investment and localisation for manufacturers. As per the new policy, approved applicants will be allowed to import Completely Built Units (CBUs) of electric four-wheelers with a minimum CIF (cost, insurance and freight) value of $35,000 at a reduced customs duty of 15% for five years. The selected automakers are required to make a minimum investment of ₹4,150 crore. Additionally, the maximum number of EVs allowed to be imported is capped at 8,000 units per year. AS INDIA’S EV market heats up, Tata Motors is doubling down on its long-term strategy to retain leadership in the space—with a bold target of achieving 50% market share in the EV segment. The company is also strengthening its focus on premium hatchbacks and CNG models, even as sports utility vehicles (SUVs) continue to dominate the passenger vehicle market. Tata Motors currently commands a dominant position in EVs, particularly in the entry segment where its market share stands at 75%.
