Serving five years in the US Navy was an honor. I completed my BMT in November of 2012, and Norfolk, Virginia, was my first duty station. Unfortunately, my contract ended in 2017. After completing high school, I was indecisive on where I wanted to start a career for my future; then, a recruiter called my house and gave me all the details about joining the Navy. Since I’ve always been curious about traveling the world, I figured this would be an excellent experience for me to focus on doing so at the time. I was born in Lemore, California, but I grew up in Ports-I mouth, Virginia. My grandfather was a Navy member, and this is how the California and Portsmouth collaboration were created. In 2019 My mom passed away, I’ll forever keep her memories with me, and I’m grateful she lined me up for the military. Rest peacefully Momma! I grew up in the Caribbean. The island was small, so small that you’re able to drive to it in less than two hours. Early on in my life, I knew that I had to do something to get away from that environment. Even though I excelled in academics, I knew that college wasn’t for me, so I joined the United States Navy. My father was also the driving force because he told me that he messed up and hadn’t saved any money for college, even if that was my choice. My father was always my inspiration. He was a state trooper and had visions of me joining the marines, but it was not something that I wanted to do. The recruiters informed me that I would be stripped down as a person and built back up to a marine. I knew right away that was not for me. He informed me of everything that I would endure becoming one of the finest soldiers this country possesses. Living in Virginia Beach, VA, allowed me to have a Good Life; meeting my husband in high school and building our family here. I entered the military Airforce Reserves after getting married. I was the mother of a five-year-old daughter at the time, and I decided to leave her in my husband’s care while I went through my boot camp training. My decision to join the military forces was to follow in my Dad’s footsteps since he was a retired Airforce member, and my wish was to make him proud. My upbringing started in a small rural town called Moscow in Eastern Iowa. I have the most incredible parents and the best sister; I grew up in a place where it was a typical blue-collar type of environment. My dad served in Vietnam, was drafted, then returned to a drug semi for forty-two years, my mom was a chef for forty years plus, and now retired. We were more of a country Iowa family, which made it strange for me to become a military service member.
