Ben and I are from opposite ends of the country but currently reside in Canterbury, so we decided to show all of our favourite people what a beautiful part of the country we live in. Our ceremony was held atop Mt John at Tekapo, which was fitting for us in that we love being outdoors, and the café there was one of our early date spots. I always dreamed of a wedding on the island of Santorini, Greece. Although I’d never been there, having a wedding in such a romantic and almost magical place was the best I could ever wish for. Rob and I wanted to have a wedding that wasn’t just beautiful and special for us, but also fun for our friends and family. We wanted to have our ceremony and reception all in one place, outdoors and with a relaxed feel. We worked closely with our wonderful florist to create the theme of our wedding. She worked with the colour scheme I wanted, adding romantic touches like soft linen runners and candlesticks for tables, and the flowers inspired my bridesmaids’ looks as well. I found a simple and comfortable gown, and added beading to give it something a little extra. John had always wanted to wear the traditional Tongan wedding formal attire for our wedding. We had his, the groomsmen, and our nephews’, and son’s tupenus custom made from a grey cotton wool blend. His aunt made all of the kahoas, the traditional Tongan necklace.
