NOT LONG ago, Mikaela Mayer was struggling for options. Without a title, she was deemed high risk, low reward.
Her situation is very different now. Mayer added three more world titles to her name, courtesy of a dominant 10-round points victory over Mary Spencer inside Montreal Casino that made her a three-division champion.
Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs, 151lbs) claimed Spencer’s WBA super-welterweight title and collected the vacant WBC and WBO baubles, relinquished by the retiring Cecilia Braekhus, with a unanimous points decision over her bigger opponent.
Scores of 98-92, 98-92 and 100-90 gave the current WBO welterweight holder world titles in a third weight division, and she is now potentially one fight away from going undisputed.
