FIRST OFF, let me personally offer a sincere thank you to all the state and provincial biologists who helped compile the data for this year’s “Deer Forecast.”
Although hunter numbers have been decreasing for decades, since 2001, bowhunter numbers across North America have increased 19.1%. This year’s “Deer Forecast” recorded the second highest number of bowhunters (3,683,446) throughout North America. Although hard to actually prove, this increase in growth is most likely linked to the expansion of crossbows into the various state archery seasons.
Pennsylvania reports more licensed bowhunters than anyone at 330,900. Michigan (311,155), Wisconsin (228,856), Missouri (240,529), and New York (228,974) round out the top five. These five states make up 36.5% of all bowhunters in North America.
