Saturday June 29 saw powerboat racers thundering across Lake Tekapo in an annual fixture for New Zealand Boat Marathon Commission (NZMBC), an overseeing body that coordinates and promotes responsible boating, allowing boating clubs to organise and run events involving a series of nominated speed time trials and speed race events that all boat owners can be a part of. A community, volunteer-run event, New Zealand’s biggest multi-day sailing regatta – Bay of Islands Sailing Week – has always been proud to call itself a regatta by sailors, for sailors. The event returns next summer with well-known New Zealand race officer Ian Clouston returning as Regatta Chairman for the 2025 edition, scheduled for January 21-24. “We’re thrilled to have North Sails and Explore NZ back on board as sponsors of this iconic event, and encourage any businesses or individuals interested in supporting the event to get in touch,” says Clouston. Emirates Team New Zealand are back sailing in Barcelona. Since Taihoro’s arrival at the base in late June, after a 28-day shipping journey from New Zealand, the Emirates Team New Zealand shore crew has worked tirelessly to get the boat ready for its first sail, including fitting and preparing two new foils.
