Established in 1993 by industry legend Trevor Geldard, the company has undergone changes and challenges over the years, but it remains in family ownership and good heart. The Salthouse Corsair is an iconic New Zealand launch, still much sought after second hand. Over 170 Mk1 and Mk11 Corsairs have been built since the early 1970s. The Salthouse Corsair is still in production in China, thanks to Dean Salthouse of Salthouse Next Generation Boats, albeit in a much modernised and improved form. Dean is the son of the original Corsair’s designer and builder Bob Salthouse and worked with him to turn the original Corsair into today’s wider cabriolet-styled motoryacht. I essentially grew up in my late father’s agricultural engineering workshop.
