CAMBODIA used to be in the news headlines as a war zone, but now, 50 years on, it is a safe and attractive destination. Some tour operators combine it with a trip to Laos, which is far less birdy. After arriving at Phnom Penh, it is worth allocating at least one day to visit the world-famous temples at Angkor Wat. Cambodia’s most recent endemic, Cambodian Tailorbird, was only discovered in 2009 and can be seen at several hot-spots near the capital, and new sites for it are still being discovered. Rather than being a discovery, Cambodian Laughingthrush was split from White-necked Laughingthrush in the early 2000s.
