It's fair to say that most birders, as well as many BTO members and supporters, are unaware the organisation owns and manages its own Norfolk nature reserve.
Located by our headquarters in Thetford, Nunnery Lakes is a small but diverse site, sandwiched between the rivers Thet and Little Ouse.
Despite its modest size, it contains a rich variety of Breckland habitats, such as sandy heathland, flood meadow, wet woodland and reedbed. It is also home to series of lakes, the result of former gravel workings. This diverse landscape means it is home to a variety of wildlife, and nature enthusiasts can find birds, mammals, invertebrates, reptiles, and plants within its boundaries.
