Many readers will remember the UK's first Cape Gull, at Grafham Water, Cambridgeshire, in the first half of August, 2022. Indeed, many will have been to see this big brute of a black-backed, huge-billed, dark-eyed, long grey-legged gull. You may even recall that it was deemed (by the stage of moult and wear) to be a second-summer bird and that after it left the site (10 August, 2022), it seemingly vanished into thin air and was not seen elsewhere.
