Heaton Park, about 23 minutes by tram from central Manchester, is a typical but extensive urban park with lots of wooded areas. While you need a permit to visit the adjacent reservoir, you may be lucky with interesting flyovers. In the park, look out for thrushes in winter, as well as Bullfinch and common woodland birds like Nuthatch, Treecreeper and Goldcrest.
Salford Quays and surrounds are 25 minutes by tram from central Manchester, and well worth a visit. Past eBird records include Kestrel, Peregrine, Mediterranean Gull, Meadow Pipit, Goosander, Yellowlegged Gull, Common Scoter and Common Tern.
