TENNESSEE WARBLER
This most Phylloscopus-like of North American ‘wood warblers’ is extremely rare in the UK (with all records from offshore islands, mostly in Shetland). In the past few years, there have been two, a well-watched bird on Yell, Shetland in late September and early October 2020, and a less well-watched individual on Skokholm, Pembrokeshire, in mid-October 2022.
ALPINE ACCENTOR
Last year was an extraordinary one for the very rare ‘mountain dunnock’ in the UK, with two birds ‘showing well’, in late October: at Slaughden, Suffolk, followed by another at Blakeney Point, Norfolk (into early November). Let's have another autumn like that, please.
