Chichester Harbour has inter-tidal mudflats, foreshore, marshes and adjacent farmland, and attracts wildfowl, waders, terns and gulls, and in winter thousands of Brent Geese. Sightings of wading birds are assured whatever time of year, with late summer being the best for passage sandpipers that may include Little Stint and Curlew Sandpiper. Terns are present in summer and there is always the chance of a rarity.

1 Check fields behind the car park for Shelduck, Redshank, Lapwing, Curlew, Sky Lark, Meadow Pipit, gulls and corvids and, at high tide, the permanent pasture for passing waders, typically Bar-tailed Godwit, Whimbrel and Ruff.
