Raptors are undeniably charismatic birds – they’re generally on the large side, and so very noticeable, and they’re all graceful and/or fast.
What’s easy to forget is that, not so long ago, there were fewer of them, both in terms of individual birds and different species. But on page 24, we profile Roy Dennis, a man who has played a big part in restoring raptors, such as Osprey and White-tailed Eagle, to our skies – it’s difficult to read it and not think about how much has changed and how much we can still change for the better (I’m thinking, of course, of the persecution of Hen Harriers on grouse moors).
