James Lowen detailed the long story of The Birdwatcher’s Yearbook in these pages recently, marking the title’s 40th anniversary, but how does the latest volume compare to what’s gone before?
Well, don’t expect any radical changes, but that’s all to the good. Everything you’d expect is there – directories of birding organisations, lecturers, photographers and artists, a birding diary, a reference section, a fully updated guide to more than 380 nature reserves, and tide tables.
There’s the usual excellent round-up of the books of the year, and a good selection of longer features. Two of them, on the wildlife value of roadside verges, and on the well-being benefits of birdwatching, touched on subjects close to my heart, and so…
