What a brilliant Oxley interview with Carl Fogarty (Bike, January). One of the best WSB riders ever, an international icon, and eventually a TV personality. All the media spotlight, the trophies, the glory… then it stopped. A scary thing. But Foggy felt relief, glad to be away from the constant pressure, able to be normal and do normal things. I retired last year, even though I'm not retirement age, and I felt the same relief – no more stress or expectation.
The most revealing thing about this interview was the openness and admittance of mental health issues and anxiety. If a big man like him can suffer then admit there is a problem, then we should all take note.
