Getting the hump, but not for long
On the journey from one home (Sydney, Australia) to another (Wai, India), I traversed many countries – Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, China, Pakistan and India. So I witnessed machines and beasts of all kinds being used as transport; from yaks and camels to tractors and tuk-tuks. Jealousy crept over me, seeing tourists cross mountain ranges in the comfort of 4x4s or a farmer on a cart being pulled by his trusty camel. This feeling was always short-lived as the sight of my first bike with me, on a journey to distant lands, dissipated almost all the pain in my body.
