YOU PROBABLY WON’T think it’s pretty, and next to the latest all-singing all-rounders it’s as high-tech as a teapot. However, I’ll have a tenner with anyone that this could be 2016’s Bike Of The Year. It’s the lovely Yamaha Tracer 700 – perky and practical, fun yet functional, and pleasingly affordable.
It’s the firm’s class-busting MT-07 naked dressed up in a half-fairing, following the same successful route used to turn the larger MT-09 triple into a Tracer last year. Most of the naked bike remains. It’s the same frugal 689cc, 70bhp twin and frame, wheels, forks, brakes, footpegs, clocks and most other parts are carried over. However, the Tracer’s longer swingarm takes wheelbase from 1400 to 1450mm, for greater stability, and there’s an extra 12mm of rear wheel travel. A…
