Located on Sydney’s North Shore, this former ugly duckling was lacking in style but it had obvious structural integrity. Concrete and double-brick abounded, and its unusual curves attracted the new owners, as did the large north-facing level site and views across to Manly.
Given the site’s existing side setbacks, current planning laws meant it wasn’t possible to replicate the original three-storey structure in a new build — this gave David Campbell Building (DCB) the perfect opportunity to reuse, recycle, and repurpose. A total refurbishment was planned along with additional garaging, new north-facing verandahs, and a new upper-floor master ensuite.
A modern masterpiece featuring curved concrete, steel, stonework, masonry, glazing, handrails, joinery and doors throughout, the modern design reflects the homeowners’ love of fluid, evocative geometry.
