THOROUGHLY MODERN MELBOURNE
‘MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art’ represents more than 200 works from the collection of the iconic New York institution. Arranged in eight loosely chronological sections that reflect ground-breaking shows from the museum’s history, this major survey begins with fin-de-siècle artists grappling with the birth of the modern metropolis and moves through to contemporary concerns around globalisation and the movement of people across nations, charting radical shifts in art, society, technology and international politics along the way. Here, the creations of the century’s canonical image-makers – Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Dalí, O’Keeffe, Pollock, Kahlo, Rothko, Warhol and more – are presented in dialogue with leading artists working today, including El Anatsui, Kara Walker, Olafur Eliasson and Mona Hatoum. Until October 7. ngv.vic.gov.au…
