As a veteran of international trade, Zou Han first became interested in business opportunities in the Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region after meeting a merchant from Peru in 2012. Digital Partnership China is advancing negotiations on joining the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement (DEPA), the Ministry of Commerce said on August 22. DEPA is a new type of trade partnership agreement and the world’s first regional agreement on the digital economy, initiated by New Zealand, Singapore and Chile. China began its application to join the agreement in November 2021. Poverty is a violation of human rights. This is because an inadequate command over economic resources curtails the basic freedoms necessary for human dignity. The 2015 agreement by all 193 member states of the UN to eradicate poverty by 2030 therefore marks a major milestone toward the fulfillment of human rights everywhere. However, human rights are delivered by actions, not international agreements. China’s poverty alleviation policy—delivered at national, provincial and local levels—demonstrates this.
