This one’s for the ladies! B.A.S.S. recently announced the creation of a new initiative called BassmastHER. The organization believes that women have been underserved within the bass fishing community and plan to do something about it. The new BassmastHER program will kick off in 2024 with three workshops, each tied to an Elite Series event. The first workshop will be held at the St. Johns River in Palatka, Fla., April 20. The second workshop will be at the Wheeler Lake event in Decatur, Ala., June 15. And the final workshop will coincide with the St. Lawrence River Elite in Waddington, N.Y., on Aug. 17. A pair of $1,000 scholarships for female anglers — sponsored by the Southern Division American Fisheries Society Black Bass Conservation Committee — are on the line from now until April 1. In memory of the late Noreen Clough, a trailblazing female leader of the American conservation community, her friends and colleagues established a scholarship honoring her contributions to the field of fisheries management and conservation — the Noreen Clough Memorial Scholarship for Females in Fisheries. The former B.A.S.S. national conservation director passed away in 2015 after dedicating some seven decades of her life to fishing. In the 1970s, Clough was a clerical worker at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service who upgraded a degree in English to a second degree in biology in order to work in the field. “Not…

This May, the St. Johns River is set to welcome more than 1,000 anglers to the Wolfson Children’s Hospital Bass Tournament. Based out of Palatka, the tournament raises funds to support patients treated at the Jacksonville hospital. Since 1989, tournament participants and sponsors have raised more than $7 million in that effort. Wolfson Children’s Hospital is the only children’s hospital in northeast Florida. It serves children with both routine and complex conditions, such as congenital heart disease, cancer and blood disorders, neurological conditions and traumatic injuries.
