Angels Intrigued By Duensing
ANAHEIM High school draftees can be tentative, even timid, during their transition to pro ball, unsure how to carry themselves on and off the field and how to handle the everyday rigors of a game that is now a job.
That wasn’t the case with Cole Duensing, a 6-foot-4, 175-pound righthander who signed for $501,300—almost double his slot value— after the Angels selected him in the sixth round out of Blue Valley Northwest HS in Overland Park, Kan., last June.
Duensing, 18, threw just 13 innings in the Rookie-level Arizona League, going 2-0, 1.38 with 11 strikeouts and five walks in eight games, but his attitude and approach left as much of an impression on Matt Wise, his pitching coach, as did his stuff and potential.…
