I was out in Daytona for Bike Week with Harley-Davidson this past March testing out the new Road King Special for Baggers along with the new Street Rod 750 for Cruiser. Contrast finish has been around motorcycling for a while now, and while you see it in wheels and other parts you rarely see it taken to this extreme, throughout an entire bike. In the case of Daniel Booker’s Street Glide, brushed metal finish contrasts with gloss and matte black to offset both and really add depth to the bagger’s look. It’s similar to how Renaissance painters used the chiaroscuro method to create depth in painting: contrasted light and dark define the threedimensional form in the artwork. Welcome to our 2017 Baggers Build-Off mascot build. This 2012 Road King will be our mule for the 2017 Hot Bike Tour this year, and we were super stoked to make a scrambler of sorts out of this Road King. We started thinking about the idea the middle of last year, and the timing worked out perfectly for our idea to come to fruition (hopefully!) for this year’s Hot Bike Tour. Floorboards are an often-overlooked upgrade on your Harley-Davidson bagger. Roland Sands Design saw the opportunity to develop a functionally cool line of floorboards for your bagger that will definitely give your bike a little more oomph. The RSD Traction Rider Floorboards ($495.95) and Traction Passenger Floorboards ($489.95) feature a lightweight style that breaks up the large visual foot area found on the factory Harley- Davidson floorboards. HOME-BUILT KING This is Loren Hutsell’s 2003 Road King. He personally built this bike and rides it every chance he gets. He added Arlen Ness triple trees up front to make room for the 26-inch wheel. In back is a solid 16- inch wheel powdercoated in black, along with the black powdercoated front end and 16-inch apes. The aftermarket fairing easily slips on/ off so he can be comfortable on trips or with wind in his hair around town. Since the all-metal tank was completely refurbed and stretched, he thought it was appropriate to keep the 100th Anniversary tank badging.
