AND THE WINNERS ARE…
Li Xiaodong’s branch-clad Liyuan Library has won the Moriyama RAIC International Prize and its $100,000 purse. The project’s modest scale and budget set the tone for the newly minted award, which recognizes exceptional, socially conscious design. Constructed in the hillside village of Jiaojiehe, China, the library was funded by Hong Kong’s Lu Qianshou Trust, a rural development grant to improve economies and attract tourism. Xiaodong accepted the prize at an October gala held at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.
