Most people use metal detectors when they’re treasure hunting, but I arm myself with a camera and atlas instead. For the past three decades, I’ve been visiting the US, scouring roadsides, deserts, forests, barns and salvage yards, searching for rare and forgotten automotive jewels to photograph. During my tin-hunting travels, I’ve clocked up tens of thousands of miles, visited all 50 states and had some scary encounters with the angry scorpions, spiders, snakes and junkyard dogs who guard these gems.
