Meeting Moss
I’m a volunteer at Brooklands Museum, Weybridge. In June 2005, Mercedes-Benz opened Mercedes-Benz World on part of the old track, bringing with it a number of cars, of which one was the 1955 Mille Miglia winner, 300 SLR number 722.
These cars were to be demonstrated on the banking, with Sir Stirling Moss driving 722. Afterwards, I walked under the bridge to find them parked up, and there was Moss sitting in 722.
This was a rare chance to see him and the car together. I had my camera, as always, and spoke to Moss, who got out of the car. We had an uninterrupted 20-minute chat about a number of topics, including his epic 10-hour, 98mph-average drive in 722.
