The Activa, released in 1995, was Citroën’s attempt to harness the antiroll potential of its hydropneumatic suspension system. It incorporates two computer-controlled ‘Active Rams’, which effectively push the leaning body back upright. The result is a car that eliminates body roll almost entirely – and, consequently, provides stupendous amounts of cornering grip, as its tyres are kept in full, perpendicular contact with the road at all times.
Combined with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four, this all sounds rather promising, but sadly the rather vague steering, sharp brakes and anodyne engine note let it down.
