But Mercedes believes buyers want a choice of electrified powertrain, so it’s offering its recently facelifted C-Class with both petrol and diesel hybrid options. There’s the C300 e on the way if you want petrol, but here we’re trying the diesel, which is badged C300 de. It mixes the brand’s latest four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 302bhp and a not-inconsiderable 700Nm of torque. MODEL TESTED: Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE PRICE: £67,500 ENGINE: 3.0-litre V6, 302bhp THIS is the first opportunity we’ve had to test the facelifted Range Rover Sport, but with more technology and fresher styling compared with the previous model, including a new infotainment system, can the £67,500 SDV6 HSE (our pictures show an HSE Dynamic model) take victory here? Design & engineering THE Range Rover Sport’s updates include new lights, bumpers and the upgraded infotainment system first seen in the smaller Velar. The facelift also brought the addition of a £72,185 P400e plug-in hybrid to the range, so there is that option here as well as with the Porsche. THERE’S a big difference between this X2 20i and its Volkswagen rival. While the T-Roc is four-wheel drive only, the BMW sends its power to just the front wheels – there’s no xDrive petrol version yet. This highlights the fact that the X2 is based on the company’s UKL2 platform that it also shares with MINI. It’s a familiar platform so is similar to the T-Roc here, while there are more matching points when it comes to the engine. The X2 uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 189bhp and 280Nm of torque – 2bhp up on the T-Roc but 40Nm down. I’ll be sad to hand back the keys, because getting into the small SUV has started to feel like settling into a favourite armchair. When we took delivery of the car in April, senior reviewer Sam Naylor told me it was the most comfortable model in its class, so I was keen to see what he meant; and the Citroen crossover didn’t disappoint in that department. Sadly our red car was involved in an incident that left it needing some repairs, so a black one has slipped seamlessly into its place for a few weeks. Matthew Avery, head of research for UK safety company Thatcham Research, told Auto Express: “Before now we have found components on vehicles marked as ‘Euro NCAP only, for crash test only’.” Avery said such markings have been found on cars from “several” makers. Audi Q8 MMI Navigation Plus Standard Key features: Dual screens, smartphone link AS standard the Q8’s infotainment set-up features two main touchscreens: a 10.1-inch top display and a smaller 8.6-inch unit below it. FORMER Virgin team sponsor DS has switched its allegiance to the Techeetah squad for the 2018-19 Formula E season and revealed its livery for the sport’s fifth season (below) last week. Techeetah is also moving its operations into a new state-of-the-art facility in the Parisian suburb of Versailles.
