Peugeot’s aim is for the 208 to become what the 205 used to be: a universal car that dominates segment B. “Friendly, playful and sporty too”, Pierre Authier, head of the styling project, defines it. “Popular, premium and sporty, able to exist with the same strength in all those spheres”, Gilles Vidal, design chief of the French company, reiterates. In effect the new car starts from scratch: “Design serves to describe the value of an object”, Vidal adds: “A highly sculpted, scooped out vehicle speaks of trimming down, the highly technical, fine grille suggests high-performing engines”.
