Unlike the first two generations, which saw their final details defined in Europe, the new Yaris was designed in Japan. But the initial stage of the research has European roots, the pre-production stage having been carried out in France, in Nice, at the ED2 advanced design centre (Toyota European Design and Development), as the chief executive of the centre Ryoji Okazaki tells us. “Initially we were asked to hypothesise a radical change in the Yaris, while preserving its spirit as an agile, compact car. Toyota never stops trying to make design changes”.
