As I sit here on the plane taking off from Australia en route to the Arctic Circle to teach our next photography workshop, I reflect on all the amazing moments my partner Karlie and I have captured, and the priceless experiences that have accompanied that. Over the past decade shooting landscapes around the world, I’ve discovered when it comes to challenging me as a photographer, there are two things that stand out above all the rest. 1. Get a strong body of work together.2. Take it along to local galleries to get feedback or book a space.3. Remember that some galleries are booked a year ahead, so keep this in mind.4. Consider image size, printing costs and framing costs.5. Work out prices that are reasonable for your target market.6. Try to get as much press in as many forms as possible.7. Use a concise filing system so you can readily access the images and cross reference them. That way you can have an easy overview of your project and see what is missing or should be omitted or added.8. Persevere and don’t get disheartened and be committed to the project. Picture the scene, you’ve just returned from a fantastic day out with the camera. Still buzzing from the photo fun, you switch the computer straight on before even making a coffee and download your images. You load up the first photo, but hang on….that file looks a bit blurry.
