Where do you live and work? I live in one of the most beautiful valleys in the world ... in the mountaintops of Utah, on the west side of Utah Lake, USA. The view is awe inspiring. I enjoy every day I get to be here. I love the drive to and from home, the feeling of this area, but mostly the view. I live in a tiny little lake-house cottage filled with white-painted bead board, light-coloured furniture and pops of bright quilty goodness wherever you look. In Tina Sprenkeler’s studio, it’s as if the good fairy’s dropped by and, instead of turning a pumpkin into a coach, she’s converted furnishings into meringue and marshmallow. And then sugar frosted everything for good measure. But the magic is all down to Tina herself, not wands and wizardry – it’s her personal style, her decorating style and the style of her business, Angel Dust Interiors, which produces faux cakes iced in plaster of Paris, silk flowers and other girlier-than-girly objects from pre-loved, “scrounged” items that Tina has “prettied up”. ‘Prettied up’ is something of an understatement. How did you start your sewing career? I started showing an interest in sewing when I was pregnant with my first child, but it wasn’t until I had a fall and ended up in and out of hospital and in a wheelchair that I really started getting stuck into learning more. Why this particular craft? I’ve always loved crafting. Painting, gluing, sticking and creating. Crochet was something that I saw my boyfriend, Dennis, doing. He had taught himself to crochet by watching YouTube videos and I was a little envious of his new skill set. After a little pestering, Dennis showed me the basics of how to crochet. Was it fun designing something for Homespun’s Food Special? Yes, absolutely! It was great fun. I thoroughly enjoyed putting this quilt together – it was a quirky topic, and all those luscious colours were fabulous to combine. How did you come up with this unique idea? I don’t often work with plain-coloured fabrics, so that was a new challenge. I spent my honeymoon in Barbados and I had memories of the fresh fruit laid out in the hotel and at the street markets. Where do you live and work? I’m originally from Barcelona, but we recently moved to Trondheim, Norway. It’s a beautiful town, full of life and colour – it’s stolen my heart! How would you describe your style? It’s cute, kitschy, colourful, a bit weird, but overall just a lot of fun. Nobody else was really crocheting food-themed scarves when I first started out.
