It's question often asked over a coffee at an aero club: if you could fly any plane you wanted to, what would it be? For some, the answer rolls out even before the dot has been put on the question mark because they've coveted something that inspires them for some time. For others, it may take a bit of musing before they give an answer.
There are the pie-in-the-sky aeroplanes that are out of reach of most pilots: Mustangs, Spitfires, Lancairs, Citations, F/A-18 Hornets, Mirages ... the stuff that dreams are made of, and remain just that in most cases.
My standard answer used to bemuse people because it was very much within the reach of most average pilots: the CT-4 Airtrainer. "Not much of a bucket-list aeroplane," they'd say.…
