Pull up kerbside in a McLaren supercar or a Bentley convertible and, inevitably, heads turn. Power and beauty on wheels, automotive jewellery if you will, does that. You notice big-ticket items, be they clothes, hotel suites or those that turn left on a plane. So, inevitably, it’s about money, too.
But here’s why I’m a car enthusiast, and I enjoy the company of others so inclined. Because, sometimes, it’s not about any of those things. Happen upon a mint-condition, humdrum saloon from 40 years ago and car people get very excited at the sight of immaculate vinyl upholstery and wind-up windows. Trust me, a Ford Cortina is cooler now than it ever was.
