I’m a parent and I love your magazine. Our favourite sections are Amazing Animals, Super Science, History Hunt and Laugh Out Loud. The only suggestion that I have is to have more nature topics, such as Asian animals, insects, the environment and geology. Otherwise, your content is excellent and my grandchildren (and I) love it. 1 CHINA JIUZHAIGOU, SICHUAN PROVINCE This mountainous valley’s myriad of colours come from its diversity in natural scenery – turquoise lakes, forests that turn from green to gold and snow-capped peaks. Legend has it that once upon a time, a young boy named Dage forged a mirror out of wind for his love, the goddess Wonuosemo. In an unfortunate series of events, Wonuosemo broke the mirror and dropped its shattered pieces into the human world. These formed 114 enchanting lakes that created the fairyland of Jiuzhaigou. When we think air fresheners, flowers and fruits will usually come to mind. Cow dung is probably one of the last ingredients you’d expect to find in an air freshener, but real life can indeed be stranger than fiction. Two teenagers in Indonesia, Dwi Nailul Izzah and Rintya Aprianti Miki, have invented the world’s first air freshener made of cow dung, and as weird as it sounds, the air freshener apparently has a pleasant herbal smell. Who would’ve guessed that this was possible, but the ingenious air freshener impressed judges at the Indonesian Science Project Olympiad in 2003. Praised for its innovation and affordability, the two students won the top prize, beating over 1,000 other student inventors at the competition. WHAT YOU’LL NEED: GETTING STARTED: Cut out the bottom of a PET bottle. With the bottle bottom’s opening face down, trace a circle onto a piece of craft foam. Add on the head, legs and tail of a turtle around the circle. Cut out the turtle template. Fasten the bottom of the plastic bottle to the turtle’s body with the help of a needle and thread.
