John Morphett was a highly significant architect whose contribution to the Australian profession has not been fully understood despite his being awarded the RAIA Gold Medal in 2000. Modest, thoughtful, generous, personable and influential beyond the confines of his practice of architecture, John brought with him a cultural lineage that linked back to Bauhaus and international modernism.
Born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, on 1 August 1932, John Neville Morphett had a childhood ambition of studying architecture.
